Dong claims Qatar Airways Open trophy

Kathmandu, December 9

Tashi Dong won the title of the Qatar Airways Open Golf Tournament here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Played under stableford 3/4 handicap format, the two-handicap golfer Dong accumulated 38 points. The former national football team member Dong received open destination air ticket from Qatar Airways along with the trophy. Dong, who sank an eagle on the third hole and carded birdies on the second, 12th, 14th, 17th and 18th holes, also claimed the most birdies award.

Vijay Shrestha Einhaus finished second with 36 points after scratch handicapper Prithivi Malla, who earned 37 points, decided to take the gross section trophy. Malla had four birdies against three bogeys in his round. Einhaus also bagged the longest drive award.

Kashmira Shah won the women’s section title with the score of 31 points, while Arshiya Banu came second with 29. Likewise, Bijay Bahadur Shrestha lifted the senior category trophy with the score of 35 points and Sadbhav Acharya won the junior section title with 21 points. Wangchen Dhondup won the closest-to-the-pin award.

A total of 85 golfers took part in the two-day tournament organised by Qatar Airways. Women and junior golfers completed their rounds on Friday, while others played on Saturday. Country Manager of Qatar Airways JP Nair, Airport Manager Arpan Dawadi, Sales Manager Sarik Bogati and Captain of Gokarna Golf Club Joseph Nathan handed over the prizes to the winners.
