Double delight for Mid-Western, Far-Western

Kathmandu, July 13

Mid-Western University and Far-Western University teams registered double victories in men’s volleyball tournament under the second Prime Minister Cup University Games here at the National Sports Council covered hall today.

Mid-Western defeated Sanskrit University 25-11, 25-11 and returned to beat Kathmandu University 25-15, 25-17, while Far-Western registered a 25-19, 25-10 victory over Purbanchal University and then defeated Agriculture and Forestry University 25-17, 25-14.

In other matches, Kathmandu University defeated Pokhara University 25-14, 18-25, 25-21, while Tribhuvan University outplayed Agriculture and Forestry University 25-11, 25-17.

In table tennis, the pair of Nisha Shrestha and Dibya Shrestha of Agriculture and Forestry University entered the women’s doubles final. They defeated Pokhara University duo of Ritika Shrestha and Ishwori Gurung 11-6, 7-11, 11-8 to set the final date with Kathmandu University’s Deepika Shrestha and Ishika Regmi, who registered a 11-7, 11-8 victory over Sunita Ligal and Anusha Shakya of Tribhuvan University.

In men’s singles, Karan Rai of Agriculture and Forestry, Roshan Chaulagain of Mid-Western, Bhabuk Joshi of Tribhuvan University and Vivek Kawan of Pokhara advanced to the Super League round.

Likewise, Ishika Regmi and Deepika Shrestha of Kathmandu University and Agriculture and Forestry University’s Divya Shrestha and Nisha Shrestha made it to the Super League in women’s singles.

Players from nine universities are participating in the Games that features three events in volleyball, table tennis and badminton. Earlier, National Sports Council Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista inaugurated the three-day Games.
