Eastern rout Mid-western, advance to Super League

Lalitpur, April 21

Eastern Region joined Nepal Police Club (NPC) in the Super League round of the Women’s National Football League here at the ANFA Complex grounds on Thursday.

In group A matches, Eastern thrashed Mid-western Region 14-0, while NPC defeated Central Region 3-0. Eastern joined NPC in the Super League.

Eastern finished with four points from three matches. Central Region, who have equal four points, were pushed to the third place in inferior goal difference.

In the first match, Eastern defeated Mid-western by huge margin. Rekha Paudel scored four goals, while Saru Limbu and Reshma Rai completed hat-tricks.

Bimala Sherpa, Samjhana Lawati, Kopila Dhimal and Sima Chamling added one each for Eastern.

Paudel, who had participated in the U-14 regional championship, provided lead to Eastern in the sixth minutes and added two more in the 19th and 41st minutes to complete her hat-trick. Paudel added one more in the 52nd minute.

Rai completed hat-trick in the span of six minutes. Rai scored her first in the 21st minute and added two more in the 26th and 27th minute.

Limbu was also on fire as she completed her hat-trick in span of 10 minutes. Limbu scored her first goal in the 48th minute and added two more in the 50th and 58th minute.

Skipper Sherpa scored in the 14th, Lawati in the 33rd and Chamling in the 85th minutes.

Eastern coach Bhagawati Rana Magar said they had arrived with the target of winning the match. “I am happy with the performance of the girls.

We have to work hard in the Super League as we face the departmental side,” Magar said. Mid-western coach Ramjeet Chaudhary said they had not trained for long and the team was not set. “We had very less time to prepare for the tournament.

We just trained for a few days before coming here. I am happy with the performance of the girls.”

In another match, NPC defeated Central for their third win in the league. Ghim Kumari Gurung, Yesodha Lama and Ranjita Gurung scored apiece for NPC.

Gurung opened scoring in the 12th minute, while Lama doubled the lead in the injury time of the first half and Ranjita Gurung killed the match with a goal in the second minute of the injury time of the second half.
