India claim four gold medals

Kathmandu, December 17

Indian shuttlers claimed four gold medals in the Yonex Sunrise Nepal International Badminton Series here at the National Sports Council covered hall today.

India won men’s singles, mixed doubles, men’s doubles and women’s doubles out of the five events, while Vietnam bagged women’s singles title. Nepal had fielded 22 players in five events but no one could reach the semi-finals.

Abhishek Yelegar defeated fellow Indian shuttler Siddharath Thakur 21-16, 21-14 in men’s singles final, while Saurabh Sharma and Anoushka Parikh beat Venkat Gaurav Prasad and Juhi Dewangan 14-21, 21-19, 21-19 in the all-India mixed doubles final.

Likewise, Jakkampudi Meghana and Poorvisha S Ram outplayed Anoushka Parikh and Harika Veludurthi 21-16, 21-12 in all-India women’s doubles final, while Arjun MR and Ramchandran Shlok of India defeated Pakistani pair of Rizwan Azam and Sulehri Kashif Ali 21-18 21-15 to win the men’s doubles title. Thuy Linh Nguyen of Vietnam beat Indonesia’s Devi Yunita Indah Sari 21-17, 21-16 women’s singles final.

A total of 72 players from nine countries took part in the five-day tournament organised by Nepal Badminton Association.
