India dominate SA Regional C’ship

Indian shuttlers clean swept the second South Asian U-21 Regional Badminton Championship here at the Nepal APF Club covered hall today.

India won all six gold medals in the championship, while Nepal bagged one silver and three bronze medals. Priyanshu Rajawat won the men’s singles title with a 16-21, 21-16, 21-7 victory over Ranthushka Sasindu of Sri Lanka. Nepali shuttlers Nabin Shrestha and Sunil Joshi were third.

Malvika Bansod won the women’s singles gold defeating fellow Indian Purva Barve 21-12, 21-8, while Hasini Ambalangodge of Sri Lanka and Fathimath Nabaaha of the Maldives finished joint third.

Nepali shuttlers Nabin Shrestha and Prince Dahal  lost 21-16, 17-21, 21-17 against Vishnuvardana Goud Panjala and Dhruv Rawat in men’s doubles final. Gaurab Singha/Mangal Singha of Bangladesh and Chamath Dias/Chirath Illeperumachhi of Sri Lanka were joint third.

In women’s doubles final, Purva Barve and Tanisha Crasto defeated the Maldives pair of Aminath Babeeha and Fathima Nabaaha 21-14, 21-18, while Nepali duo Jessica Gurung and Sunaina Mukhiya finished third along with Bangladesh’s Rashmi Akter and Urmi Akter.

India had already won mixed doubles gold medal. Tanisha Crasto and Vishnuvardhana Goud had beaten Sri Lankan pair of Ranthuska Sasindu and Dilmi Dias 21-10, 21-16 on Friday. Nepali pair of Rasila Maharjan and Praful Maharjan was third along with Bangladesh’s Farbin Binte Emdad Hridita and Syed Saker Mohammad Sibgat Ullah.
