Kalaiya, Ranchi register victories

Kalaiya Cricket Club and Ranchi Cricket Club registered victories in the Jagshakti Sansad Cup Twenty20 Cricket Tournament here at the Siddheshwar grounds on Tuesday.

Kalaiya defeated Birat Cricket Society by 25 runs, while Ranchi registered a 27-run victory over Mahabir Yuva Committee. Batting first, Kalaiya scored 138-9 in 20 overs and packed Birat for 113 in 18.5 overs.

Kalaiya’s innings revolved around Aasif Sheikh’s half century. Man-of-the-match Sheikh remained unbeaten on 54 off just 35 balls that included four boundaries and three sixes. Sunil Dhamala scored 30 off 25 balls with two fours and as many sixes.

Saddhaf Akhtar claimed three wickets for Birat, while Firdosh Ansari and Puspa Thapa grabbed two wickets each. Manoj Mandal and Mehboob Alam took a wicket apiece.

In reply, Birat never looked comfortable against the hosts as they lost wickets at regular interval.

Puspa Thapa top scored for Birat with 27 off 20 deliveries with six fours, while Hasim Ansari made 13 and Manish Thapa scored 10 runs.

Avinash Karn and Basant Regmi claimed three wickets each for Kalaiya, while Binod Das and Sushil Kandel grabbed two apiece.

In another match, Ranchi scored 148-8 in 20 overs after they elected to bat first and restricted Mahabir to 121-9. Man-of-the-match Nagendra Mishra top scored for Ranchi with 56 off 34 balls that included four boundaries and three sixes.

Nikhil Jaishwal scored 20 off 23 balls, while Saras Chaudhary remained unbeaten on 16 off 18 balls. Abhishek Jha claimed three wickets for Mahabir, while Raj Mohammad, Rahul Pratap Singh, Ram Naresh Giri and Gopal Singh grabbed a wicket apiece.

Chasing a modest total, Mahabir were never in contention. Sobha Kant Pandey top scored for Mahabir with 36 off 35 balls, while Rahul Pratap Singh made 32-ball 28.

Manoj Murmi, Monty Singh and Rajan Sharma shared six wickets among them, while Atul Anand and Paritosh Kumar took a wicket apiece for Ranchi.
