Malla clinches Monthly Medal title

Prithvi Malla won the title of the third edition of the Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Played under stroke play full handicap format, the one-handicapper Malla scored two-under 70 to win the nett category trophy. Jigmay Dongstetsang came second on count back after he was tied on even-par 72 with Pavitra Karki and Bijay Bahadur Shrestha. Dongstetsang played even-par 36 on the back nine, while Karki shot two-over 38 and Shrestha had three-over 39. Karki was second runner-up.

Malla was also the best golfer in gross section but he chose the nett category title under the one-player-one-prize rule. Surendra Phuyal got the gross section award on count back after he was tied on three-under 69 with Col Bikash Shah. Phuyal scored three-over 39 on back nine, while Shah played 40.

Sam Doublard bagged the junior section award with the score of five-under 67 nett, while Shreeyog Basnyat came second with even-par 72. In all, 47 golfers took part in the event sponsored by Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd. Captain of Gokarna Golf Club Joseph Nathan handed over the prizes to the winners.

After the third edition, Surendra Phuyal leads both the nett and gross sections table. He has 145 points in nett category and 190 points in gross section. Dongstetsang is second with 125 in nett category, while Prabhakar Adhikari and Prithvi Malla share the third position with 100 points. Ang Dendi Sherpa and Purna Bahadur Rai are tied for fifth with 60.

In gross section, Tashi Tshiring is second with 140 points, while Wangchen Dhondup and Prithvi Malla share the third position with 100 points each. Tashi DongĀ  is fifth with 95 points. Likewise, Ang Phurba Sherpa is at the top of the junior section table with 240 points, while Sam Doublard (190) and Shreeyog Basnyat (120) are second and third respectively.

A total of 10 monthly medal events will be played until December. Top 40 players in nett category, top 10 in gross and top five in junior section will qualify for the Club Championship finals which will be played over two rounds in January and February next year.
