MMC eye second victory

Kathmandu, February 21

Laxmi Hyundai Manang Marshyangdi Club will be looking for the second straight victory when they play against Shaheen Aswayee FC of Afghanistan in the Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong, Bangladesh on Wednesday.

MMC produced a convincing 2-0 victory over local outfit Mohammedan Sporting Club in the Group B opener on Sunday and are looking to continue with the momentum against the Afghani team, who faced a 3-1 defeat against Chittagong Abahani. The victory will put MMC in strong position to advance to the semi-finals.

“We will try our best to beat Shaheen Aswayee as it will strengthen our chances of making it to the last four,” said MMC coach Chhiring Lopsang Gurung. “The match carries much importance as the Afghani team is in a do-or-die situation following their defeat against Chittagong Abahani,” he added.

Gurung also hinted at changing the starting line-up and strategy for the match. “We watched their match the other day and we found them weak in defense line. Their midfielders and strikers are good, so we will try to capitalise on the opponents’ weakness,” said the coach.

Skipper Anil Gurung said the team was ready for Wednesday’s match and was also confident of producing win against Shaheen Aswayee. “The players are on a high following the victory in the first match,” said Gurung. “We are hoping for a positive outcome as we have prepared well for the match against Shaheen Aswayee,” he added.
