Tamang siblings win doubles title

Kathmandu, February 1

Tribhuvan Army Club pair of Nangshal Devi Tamang and Ratnajit Tamang won the mixed doubles title of the 13th Nationwide Krishnamohan Memorial Open Badminton Tournament here at the Nepal APF Club covered hall on Wednesday.

The Tamang siblings defeated Nepal APF duo Indra Bahadur Mahata and Puja Shrestha 21-16, 21-13 in the final.

Meanwhile, Ratnajit advanced to the men’s singles final along with his teammate Nabin Shrestha. Tamang saw off APF’s Prince Dahal 21-10, 21-14, while Shrestha outplayed Nepal Police Club’s Gautam Kathayet 21-13, 21-14 in the semi-final matches.

TAC shuttler Tamang teamed up with Nabin Shrestha to advance to the men’s doubles final. They beat their TAC teammates Suraj Maharjan and Ram Rai 21-16, 21-13.

In all-APF semi-final encounter, Bijit Thapa Magar and Bishal Pradhan beat the pair of Suman Limbu and Sudip Sedhai 22-20, 14-21, 21-8.

Similarly, Nangshal Devi Tamang sailed into the women’s singles final with a 21-13, 21-10 victory over club opponent Anumaya Rai. APF’s Siksha Shrestha beat TAC’s Megha Chand 21-6, 21-18 to make it to the final.

Likewise, TAC’s Praphul Maharjan came from a set down to beat Prince Dahal of APF 12-21, 25-23, 21-17 to win the U-17 boys’ singles category.

NPC pair of Ganesh Chand and Krishna Shiwakoti won the above-35 Master doubles event, while Shyam Prajuli and Nabin Babu Shrestha of Annapurna Badminton Academy claimed the above-45 veteran doubles title.

Volleyball

APF Club and New Diamond Academy entered the final of the fourth APF IGP National Open Women’s Volleyball Tournament.

In the semi-final matches, APF Club thrashed Western Regional Volleyball Association 25-14, 25-10, 25-12, while NDA came from a set down to outplay NPC 19-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-13.

The final will be played on Thursday.
