National triathlon set for Saturday

Pokhara, April 23

Nepal Triathlon Association, under the aegis of Kaski District Triathlon Association, is organising the fourth South Asian and fifth National Triathlon Championships on Saturday.

Kaski District Triathlon Association President Suman Devkota informed that around 100 players, including 15 women, will compete in the event that will also serve as the selection tournament for the 18th Asian Games which will be hosted by Indonesia from August 18 to September 2 this year.

The event will feature 5km swimming in Fewa Lake, 5km race from the lake to Mustang Chowk and 20km cycling.

Teams from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will compete in the regional event, informed Devkota. The winner and runner-up will get medals and certificates.

Meanwhile, Devkota thanked the National Sports Council for allocating Rs 2.5 million for the feasibility study of establishing National Triathlon Academy in Pokhara. He also said that water of Fewa Lake had already been sent to laboratory for tests.
