Nepal APF maintain winning run

Kathmandu, January 22

Nepal APF Club maintained their winning streak in the 13th Red Bull Dhorpatan UM Women’s Double League Volleyball Tournament here at the Dhorpatan Volleyball Training Centre courts in New Buspark on Monday.

The league leader APF thrashed Paramount 25-6, 25-4, 25-4 in the day’s match. APF accumulated 18 points from six matches to maintain their lead in the first round of the tournament.

In other matches, Tribhuvan Army Club, Tops HS School of Pokhara, Eastern Volleyball Association and Nepal Police Club recorded victories. TAC defeated Eastern Regional Volleyball Association 25-5, 25-5, 25-7, while Tops beat Shree Gaun Sports Development Committee 25-14, 25-18, 25-22 to win their second straight match of the tournament.

Eastern returned to beat Three Star Academy 25-11, 25-17, 25-18, while NPC thrashed New Diamond Sports Club 25-7, 25-5, 25-10. Also, Shivam New Diamond Academy saw off Meghauli Sports Club 25-14, 25-18, 25-22.

After the day’s matches, Shivam NDA are second with 15 points from five matches, while NPC and TAC are tied on 12 points and are third and fourth respectively.

A total of 12 teams are competing in the event organised by Dhorpatan Sports Club under the sponsorship of Gorkha Brewery. Top seven teams after the first round will qualify for the second league.

The top three teams will earn Rs 325,000, Rs 170,000 and Rs 80,000 respectively. Similarly, the best player, rising player, player-of-the-year and player-of- the-series along with one lucky spectator will get UM Powermax scooter each, sponsored by IME Automotives Pvt Ltd. Also, the best coach, lifter, spiker, blocker, quicker, defender and server will get Rs 5,000 each.
