APF to organise badminton, volleyball, tennis tournaments

The Central Sports Committee of Nepal Armed Police Force is organising three tournaments from January 26 to February 2 with the total cash prize of Rs 1.76 million.

The ninth Sahabir Memorial Open Lawn Tennis Tournament is slated for January 26-31 at the Nepal APF Club and Satdobato Lawn Tennis Complex courts. Around 250 players are expected to participate in 13 different events, informed AIG Shailendra Khanal at a press meet today. The tournament carries a cash purse of Rs 595,000.

Likewise, the 13th Krishnamohan Memorial Open Badminton Tournament will be held from January 29 to February 2 at the Nepal APF Club covered hall. Around 350 players are expected to take part in 10 different events. The tournament carries a total cash prize of Rs 710,000.

Similarly, seven teams will participate in the APF IG fourth Open Women’s Volleyball Tournament, which will be played under league-cum-knock out format from January 29 to February 2. Out of the total cash purse of Rs 455,000, top three teams will receive Rs 250,000, Rs 125,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively. Likewise, the best spiker, server, defender, blocker, setter and coach will be rewarded with Rs 5,000 each.

“We have established a fund of Rs 40 million to conduct sports activities and the interest of that fund is main source of budget for these tournaments,” said AIG Khanal. “Also we use the club membership fees and registration amounts of these tournaments apart from various sponsors and advertisements,” he added.
