Nepal beat Sri Lanka

Lalitpur, April 24

Nepali girls’ team defeated Sri Lanka, while boys’ team produced mixed results in the South Asia Regional Qualifying event for ITF Asian U-12 and Team Championship here at the Satdobato Tennis Complex today.

The girls’ team, who lost to India 3-0 on Monday, defeated Sri Lanka 3-0 and kept the final hopes alive.

In singles events, Azaa Regmi earned a double bagel against Ruvi Rajakaruna Lewkebandara, while Subhangee Laxmi Shah saw off Hasali Gajaba 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. In doubles section, Shah teamed up with Aisha Dolker Gurung and the duo earned a double bagel against the pair of Hasali Gajaba and Nelini Methasa Jayasuriya.

In another match, India thrashed Bhutan 3-0 for their second consecutive victory.

In boys’ section, Nepal faced a 2-1 defeat against India but bounced back to beat Sri Lanka 3-0.

Aki Zuben Rawat defeated Sri Lanka’s Lisal Goonettlleke 6-3, 6-4 and Aarav Samrat Hada earned a double bagel against Vichinthya Nilaweera in singles matches. Hada and Rawat then beat the pair of Thilina Dissanayake and Vichinthya Nilaweera 6-3, 6-0.

Earlier, India’s Harsh Fogaat beat Rawat 6-2, 6-2 and Vansh Nandal saw off Hada 6-2, 6-3 in singles events. However, Rawat and Hada won doubles match against the pair of Rushil Khosla and Vansh Nandal 3-6, 6-4 (11-9).

In other matches, India thrashed Pakistan 3-0 and Sri Lanka saw off Bhutan by the same scoreline.
