Nepal come from behind to beat Kyrgyzstan in AFC U-16 Qualifiers as Rejin Subba shines again

KATHMANDU: Nepal came from two goals down to beat hosts Kyrgyzstan in the AFC U-16 Qualifiers match at the Dolen Omurzakov Stadium in Bishkek on Friday.

Nepal fell two goals behind in two minutes before they rallied to score four goals to register their second straight victory in Group B.

Rejin Subba scored a brace, while Manish Karki and Dinesh Yonjan netted one each for Nepal.

The hosts opened the scoring at the half hour mark through Borubaev Gulzhigit's free kick from the edge of the box, while Emir Shigaibaev scored from the spot to go 2-0 up.

Manish Karki reduced the deficit with a goal in the 58th minute before Rejin Subba levelled the scores with his first goal of the match in the 66th minute.

Nepal took a 3-2 lead in the 73rd minute when Subba scored his second and team's third goal in the 73rd minute, while Dinesh Yonjan put the issue beyond doubt with a goal in the second minute of the five-minute injury time. Kyrgyzstan skipper Ajamat Melisbekov was expelled for the second bookable offense in the 85th minute of the match.

Nepal had opened the campaign with a 2-1 victory over Jordan on Wednesday.

Nepal will play against Oman on Sunday.

A total of 15 teams, 10 group winners and five best runners-up, will join hosts India in the tournament proper next year.
