Nepal defeat Brunei 3-0, enter AFC Solidarity Cup 2016 semis

KATHMANDU: Nepal's strikers took their chances as they displayed a much improved performance to demolish Brunei Darussalam 3-0 and top their group at the AFC Solidarity Cup 2016 at the Sarawak Stadium in Kuching, Malaysia this evening.

Nawayug Shrestha made the breakthrough for Nepal in the injury time of first half. Bharat Khawas doubled the tally in the 72nd minute, while Bimal Gharti Magar added the third goal on a penalty in the 80th minute to seal the convincing victory.

With four points on the table, Nepal emerged as the Group A winners to set the semifinals date on Saturday, November 12 with the Group  B runner-up.

The Group B comprises of Macau, Mongolia, Laos and Sri Lanka.

In their opening match, Nepal played a tame 0-0 draw with Timor-Leste, while Brunei opened their campaign with a 4-0 win over Timor-Leste.

Brunei ended up second in the group with three points and will play Macau, which already secured the semifinal berth before playing their last match in the four-team Group B.

Mongolia and Laos, both with three points each, as well as Macau and Sri Lanka are playing their last group matches tomorrow.
