Nepal face Canada in must-win match today

Kathmandu, February 13

Nepal national cricket team face Canada in a must-win encounter of the ICC World Cricket League Division-II at the Wanderers Cricket Ground in Windhoek, Namibia on Wednesday.

Nepal, Canada and hosts Namibia are tied on nine points and the top teams after Wednesday’s fifth round matches will earn berth in the final along with tickets to the World Cup Qualifiers to be held in Zimbabwe next month.

This match will be third meeting between Nepal and Canada in four years with the teams tied at 1-1 in head-to-head results. Nepal had faced a 12-run defeat against Canada in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers in 2014 before recording a seven-wicket victory in the WCL Division-II in Namibia in 2015.

Nepal opened the campaign with a one-wicket victory over hosts Namibia before facing a six-wicket loss at the hands of Oman. Nepal bounced back to beat the United Arab Emirates by four wickets and registered a three-wicket victory over Kenya in the last-ball thriller. Similarly, Canada defeated Oman by eight wickets, UAE by 23 runs and Kenya by 59 runs before facing a 17-run defeat against Namibia.

In other matches of the day, hosts Namibia will take on the United Arab Emirates, who have four points, while Oman (two) will take on Kenya, who are yet to open their accounts.
