Pakistan U-19 defeat Nepal by 122 runs

KATHMANDU: Nepal Under-19 cricket team lost to Pakistan by a big margin in the Super League Playoff Semi-Final match of ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Bangladesh on Tuesday.

Pakistan restricted Nepal to 136 runs in 43.5 overs and won the match by 122 runs.

Batting first, Pakistan had posted a 259-run target.

Prem Tamang (not out) top-scored 65 off 91, including 11 fours and a six, while only two other batsmen -- Raju Rijal and Sushil Kandel -- scored runs in double digit.

Skipper Rijal failed to give a satisfactory performance and made 15 off 34 before being caught out by Gauhar Hafeez in Saif Ali's ball, while Kandel contributed 10 off 62.

Opening batsmen for Nepal, Sunil Dhamala and Sandeep Sunar failed to contribute much to the scoreboard. Dhamala was caught out by Umair Masood in Hasan Mohsin's ball at 1.3 overs after scoring seven runs while Sunar was caught out by Ahmad Shafiq in Irfan Liaqat's ball after making four runs.

Yogendra Singh Karki and Himanshu Dutta were also sent back, just like Dhamala by Masood-Mohsin duo, with only five runs at 7.3 overs and zero runs at 9.6 overs.

Aarif Sheikh, who scored only one run, was bowled out by Hasan Mohsin at 9.3 overs while Dipendra Singh Airee with eight runs was bowled out by Irfan Liaqat at 14.5 overs.

Kushal Bhurtel went back to the pavilion after an LBW by S Ali with zero runs at 20.4 overs while Sushil Kandel made 10 runs before being out at 39.2 overs. Sandeep Lamichhane was run out with no runs.

Earlier, Nepal had won the toss and elected to field against Pakistan.

Nepal had claimed the first wicket in the very first over when Sandeep Sunar caught opening bastman Mohammad Umar's shot mid air in a ball pitched by Aarif Sheikh.

With the early motivation, Nepal claimed another wicket at 4.3 overs with Gauhar Hafeez in Sheikh's ball. And Hasan Khan returned to the pavilion when Shiekh caught his shot in Dipendra Singh Airee's ball at 13.2 overs.

Nepal had a hard time taking any wicket for full 31 overs. Saif Badar and Hasan Mohsin made a partnership of 189 runs from 31.1 overs as Badar made 88 runs off 118 balls and Mohsin made 117 runs from 106 balls.

Badar, the opening batsman, stayed strong but was bowled out by Sandeep Lamichhane at 44.3 overs.

When Badar's wicket fell, Pakistan's streak crumbled down. Hasan Mohsin was caught out by Airee in Lamichhane's ball and followed Badar back to the pavilion at 46.2 overs.

After two balls, Salman Fayyaz was caught out by Sunil Dhamala in Lamichhane's ball with 14 runs in his account. Shadab Khan was caught out by Kushal Bhurtel in Sushil Kandel with six runs.

In the last over, Kandel sent Umair Masood back in Airee's ball with 14 runs off 10 balls.

Irfan Liaqat and Saif Ali ended the innings at 258 runs. Arsal Sheikh did not bat.
