Nepali athletes set for Universiade

Kathmandu, August 15

Eighteen Nepali athletes are set to represent  Nepal in the 29th Summer Universiade scheduled for August 19-30 in Taipei  City, Chinese Taipei.

Nepal will take part in seven sports disciplines in the event which is dubbed as the Little Olympics. Asmita Khadka (49kg), Namrata  Tuladhar (57kg), Olympian Nisha Rawal (above-73kg) and Umesh Rajbhandari (below-68kg) will compete in  taekwondo tournament.

Sanjip Lama, Indira Paudel and Mandira Thapa will take part in the fencing tournament, while Ashok Shrestha will accompany the players to Chinese Taipei as an official. Likewise,  Krishna Chhetri will compete in athletics, while Tika Maya Gurung and  Manish Ranabhat will take part in weightlifting. Ahmad Sakil is official  in weightlifting.

Also, Deepak Bohara, Sailesh Dahal and Amita Giri will compete in  men’s badminton, while Madan Karki  is official for the sport. Karan Rai, Yushesh Chandra Rai and Bhabuk  Joshi will participate in table tennis.

University Sports Association  Nepal’s President Pradeep Joshi is the team leader, while Gyanendra  Prasad, Purna Singh Bohara and Janardan Sharma are other officials. Meanwhile,  Nepal Fencing Association President Sunil Kumar Shrestha bade farewell  to the team on Tuesday. The team is leaving for Taipei City on Thursday.
