Lifter KC to compete in Youth WC

Lalitpur, October 17

Nepali weightlifter Prakash KC is on Tuesday leaving for Malaysia to take part in the IWF Youth World Championships to be held in Penang from October 19-25.

The 17-year-old KC, who hails from Banke, will compete in the men’s 62kg category. This will be his fifth international participation after the 15th Asian Youth Weightlifting Championship in Qatar in 2013, 16th edition held in Thailand in 2014, Asian Weightlifting Championship held in Thailand last year and the 12th South Asian Games held in India in February.

KC, whose personal best is 93kg in snatch and 120kg in clean and jerk, said his aim was to improve his personal record. “I will give my best and try to better my personal record. Winning medal depends upon other participants’ performance,” said KC, who trained for two months to prepare for the competition. Coach Sakil Ahmed will accompany the lifter to Malaysia.

Meanwhile, National Sports Council’s Acting Member Secretary and Treasurer Surendra Hamal bade farewell to the team amid a function here at the International Sports Complex in Lalitpur today.
