Nescafe Open on Saturday

Kathmandu, April 7

The inaugural edition of the Nescafe Gold Open Golf Tournament is scheduled for Saturday here at the Gokarna Golf Club.

Around 100 golfers from the club are expected to take part in the one-day tournament that offers prizes in overall, gross women, senior and junior section apart from the field awards, informed the organisers at a press meet today. Nestle India Limited, the producers of Nescafe Gold, is the sponsor of the tournament.

“This event is one of the sought after tournaments in India and we are introducing this in Nepal from this year,” said Deepak Acharya, Senior Golf Director at Gokarna Golf Club. “We are extremely delighted and excited to host the tournament and the golfing fraternity is looking forward to a competitive and enjoyable day,” he said. “We are thankful to our sponsor and hope the event will be a permanent feature in Nepalese golfing calendar,” he added.

Pulak Chakrabarti, CEO of Twohmp Communications, which manages the events of Nestle India, said they were happy to get the opportunity to organise a tournament. “We are delighted with the response from players for the event,” said Chakrabarti. “I was fascinated with the ambience of Gokarna Golf Club when I first came here couple of years ago. I loved the course and I found it a totally different world,” he added. “That’s why we came up with the idea of taking the tournament to Nepal.”

This is the eighth event organised by Nestle India and the first tournament in Nepal. “We organised seven tournaments in different venues in India in the past years and we have come here this time around.” Proprietor of Chokhani Enterprises, the importers of Nestle products in Nepal, Sanjay Chokhani was also present on the occasion.
