NRT edge past Pulchowk

Kathmandu, August 31

New Road Team (NRT) beat Pulchowk Sports Club 1-0 in the Martyrs Memorial B Division Football League to extend their lead by two points ahead of Ranipokhari Corner Team (RCT).

Leaders NRT extended their lead after second-placed RCT played a 1-1 draw with Bansbari Club here at the Nepal APF Club grounds. With the win, NRT accumulated 10 points, while RCT have eight points from four matches. Pradip Gurung’s solitary goal in the 19th minute was enough for NRT to beat Pulchowk.

In da’s first match, RCT took lead after Saujan Rai found the net in the 24th minute. However, Kshitiz Khadka scored the equaliser for Bansbari in the 41st minute to share the spoils. Bansbari remained unchanged at the eighth position with six points.

Meanwhile, Shree Kumari Club faced their first defeat as they went down 2-1 against Khumaltar Youth Club at the ANFA Complex grounds in Lalitpur. Dinesh Henjan’s goal in the 18th minute put Shree Kumari ahead in the match.

However, Khumaltar bounced back to score two goals after the interval to record their first victory in four matches. Skipper Suraj Raut levelled the scores in the 69th minute and netted the all-important goal of the match in the injury time of second half.

At a time when the match was heading towards a draw, Raut sealed all three points for Khumaltar. Shree Kumari goalkeeper controlled the ball outside the box and collected it guiding the ball inside the box. The over smart keeper let the ball to play by simply throwing it down but Raut was quick enough to beat the goalie and bury the ball into the open nets.

Shree Kumari remained unchanged at the third position with seven points, while Khumaltar moved to ninth position with the win.
