Sharma clinches Hyundai Open crown

Kathmandu, April 30

Dr Niranjan Sharma won the title of the sixth Hyundai Open Golf Tournament here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

The nine-handicap golfer, Sharma accumulated 42 points to claim the trophy and a gift voucher worth Rs 100,000. He scored 23 points on the front nine before adding 19 on the second half. Mithun Rai finished second with 41 points and received gift voucher worth Rs 50,000. Rai started slow scoring 18 on the front nine and added 23 on the back. Deepak Rajbhandari was third on count back after he was tied on 39 points. Rajbhandari scored 22 on the back nine, while Bastakoti had 17.

Tashi Dong won the gross section trophy with the score of 38 and received Rs 50,000 worth gift voucher. The former national football team member Dong carded seven birdies on his way to finishing the round at two-under 70. He also won the most birdies award that earned him another Rs 10,000 worth gift voucher.

Mi Jeong Ju lifted the women’s section title with the score of 32 points and received gift voucher worth Rs 20,000, while Lobsang Tashi won the senior category trophy on count back after he was tied on 32 points with Maj Gen (retd) Narendra B Rawal. Lobsang scored 18 points on back nine, while Rawal had 16. Likewise, Mukti Sen Gurung claimed the Hyundai Owner's section trophy with 38 points, while Mayank Dahal bagged the junior (U-17) section title with 19 points. Gurung and Dahal bagged Rs 20,000 worth gift voucher each.

Also, Tashi Tshiring and Yong Man Go won the longest drive and closest-to-the-pin awards respectively and received Rs 10,000 worth gift voucher each. No one could win the Hole-in-One prize of Hyundai i10 car. Meanwhile, Kishan Agrawal was received Rs 10,000 worth gift voucher for bringing in the best-maintained car among the participants. The winners can use the gift vouchers at the Gokarna Golf Club Pro Shop and Hyundai outlets for services and purchase of products.

In all, 111 golfers took part in the annual tournament sponsored by Laxmi Intercontinental Pvt Ltd, sole distributors for Hyundai vehicles in Nepal.

The tournament was played under stableford 3/4 handicap format. South Korean Ambassador to Nepal, Yong In Choe, Chairman of Laxmi Group Ganesh Bahadur Shrestha and President of Gokarna Golf Club Suhrid Ghimire handed over the prizes to the winners.
