NSC gets new Member-Secy, 1st woman in 20-year history

KATHMANDU: A woman has been appointed to the post of Member-Secretary of the National Spots Council (NSC) for the first time in the history of Nepali sports.

Sakuntala Nagarkoti (41) from Punarbas of Kanchanpur, has been appointed to the post on Monday.

Assuming the post here today, Nagarkoti expressed her commitment that she will make maximum efforts for development and expansion of the sports sector.

She also expressed the belief that amendments to sports-related rules and regulations are essential for development of the sector.

She said, "Athletes, different organisations related to sports and leaders of political parties should be united to uplift the sport sector."

The President Running Shield Competition, which is in dilemma due to quake, would be organised from June 20, she added.

Nagarkoti was national player of kabaddi and volleyball during 1990s. She served as office-bearers of different sports-related organisations for last 20 years.

NSC Vice-Chairman Tendi Sherpa, NSC Administration Chief Indra Bahadur Karki, among others wished newly appointed Member-Sectary Nagarkoti every success in her new endeavour.
