Purna Shakya won the eighth edition title of the Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal Golf Tournament here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Shakya scored four-under 68 nett to finish first ahead of Athma Ram Simkhada. Simkhada came second on count back after he was tied on even-par 72 with Dhurba Thapa, Babu Sherpa and Satya Rai. Thapa was third, also on count back.

SSP Rajendra Shrestha bagged the gross section award with seven-over 79, while Mayanka Dahal won the junior section trophy with the score of three-over 75. A total of 39 golfers took part in the tournament sponsored by Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd. Executive Committee Member of Gokarna Golf Club Phintso Ongdi Lama handed over the prizes to the winner.

After the completion of eight rounds, Jigmay Dongstetsang is at the top of the nett category leaderboard with 460 points, while Dhurba Thapa moved to second with 410. Tendi Sherpa is third with 380 points, Athma Ram Simkhada is next with 290 and Lt Gen (retd) KNS Thapa is fifth with 240.

In the gross section, Vijay Shrestha Einhaus and SSP Rajendra Shrestha share the lead with 115 points, while Jigmay Dongstetsang and Tendi Sherpa are tied on third with 110 points. Prithivi Malla is fifth with 100 points. In junior section, Devasri Rana is at the top with 230 points, while Mayanka Dahal is second with 140. Tenzin Yoden Lama and Arnav Shah are joint third with 110 points. A total of 10 monthly medal rounds will be played until December. Top 40 in nett category and 10 each in gross and junior sections will advance to the Club Championships which will be played over two rounds in January and February next year.
