Basnyat appointed SKorea coach

Kathmandu, February 25

Nepal women’s national cricket team coach Raju Basnyat has been picked up as the head coach of South Korea national cricket team.

Basnyat said he was hired for a year but was not sure whether he would look after men’s team or women’s team. “I had applied for the post a month ago and they responded positively,” said Basnyat, who will have to reach South Korea before March 10. “I am excited with the new assignment as coaching a foreign team is an opportunity as well as a challenge. I need to prove myself there,” said Basnyat.

He will receive 50,00,000 Won (Rs 472,000) per month as salary apart from the allowance of 15,58,000 Won (Rs 147,000). Basnyat recently coached Nepal women’s team during the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifying for Asia Region held in Hong Kong as well as the ACC Women Asia Cup held in Thailand.

Basnyat will be the third Nepali cricketer to coach Korean teams. Previously former Nepal internationals Dipendra Chaudhary and Neera Rajopadhyay had got the opportunity to coach in Korea during the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.
