Rana sisters make it to semis

Nepal Police Club duo Mayanka Rana and Mahika Rana advanced to the women’s singles semi-finals of the 10th Sahabir Memorial Open Lawn Tennis Championship along with Tribhuvan Army Club’s Ira Rawat and Pokhara’s Ganga Sharma today.

Mayanka saw off Nepal APF Club’s Anne Mathema 6-1, 6-1, while her sister Mahika defeated her NPC teammate Abhilasha Bista 6-1, 6-2. Likewise, Rawat outplayed APF’s Bhagwati BK 6-2, 6-0 and Sharma thrashed APF’s Indra Kala Shrestha 6-1, 6-0.

In men’s singles quarter-final matches, Jitendra Pariyar of Lalitpur earned a double bagel against his teammate Abhishek Bista, while NPC’s Kamal Bhandari outplayed Subrat Basnet of Kathmandu 6-2, 6-0. Also, Bikash Khadka of Butwal thrashed Bibek Shrestha of Kathmandu 6-1, 6-0 and Kathmandu’s Man Bahadur Katuwal beat Lalitpur’s Nishan Shrestha 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the semi-finals.

In men’s doubles quarter-final matches, NPC duo of Pranav Khanal and Kamal Bhandari defeated Pokhara’s pair of Nabin Magar and Anjan Thing 6-2, 6-1, Man Bahadur Katwal and Jeevan Ghimire beat fellow Kathmandu teammates Bikram Thapa and Saroj Tamang 6-0, 6-2, Lalitpur’s Jitendra Pariyar and Santosh Khatri defeated Kathmandu’s Chhewang Lama and Bibek Shankar Shrestha 6-1, 6-0 and Pokhara’s Pradeep Khadka and Anil Shahi defeated Butwal’s Bikash Khadka and Gopal Gyanwali 6-2, 6-4.

Badminton

TAC’s Ratnajit Tamang, Prajwal Maharjan and Nabin Shrestha advanced to the men’s singles quarter-finals of the 14th Krishna Mohan Open Badminton Championship. In pre-quarters, Tamang defeated Kailali’s Devraj Rana 21-12, 21-12, while Maharjan saw off APF’s Sudeep Sedhai 21-11, 21-19 and Shrestha beat NPC’s Jeevan Acharya 21-12, 21-16.

Similarly, Bhojpur’s Bikash Shrestha defeated APF’s Gautam Kathayat 21-19, 21-19, Sajan Krishna Tamrakar recorded a 21-14, 21-10 win over his APF teamamte Indra Bahadur Mahata and Prince Dahal of Darchula saw off NPC’s Deepak Bohara 21-17, 21-17.

In women’s doubles quarter-final matches, Jhapa duo of Sanumaya Mukhiya and Jesika Gurung saw off APF’s Shobha Gauchan and Kaski’s Poonam Gurung 21-14, 21-12, while TAC pair of Amita Giri and Rashila Maharjan defeated Nita Lamsal of Morang and Sita Rai of Bhojpur 21-14, 22-20. Likewise, APF duo of Pooja Shrestha and Shikshya Shrestha outplayed Zest Badminton’s Jyoti Limbu and Dina Pun 21-11, 22-20, while TAC pair of Nangsal Tamang and Anumaya Rai earned a walkover win from APF’s Sita Dahal and Gyanu Limbu.

Volleyball

Nepal APF Club and Shivam New Diamond Academy won their matches of the APF IG fifth Open Women’s Volleyball Tournament. APF beat Nepal Police Club 25-21, 25-14, 25-18, while NDA thrashed Tribhuvan Army Club 25-17, 25-12, 25-15.
