Ranjeet Baral wins NEC Cup

Kathmandu, May 21

Dr Ranjeet Baral won the title of the Nepal Engineering College Golf Tournament here at the Royal Nepal Golf Club today.

Played under stableford ¾ handicap format, Baral accumulated 40 points to claim the first-edition trophy of the tournament sponsored by Nepal Engineering College.

The 17-handicap amateur golfer, Dr Baral scored 20 points each on either half.

Sonam Ghale, who played with 14 handicap allowance, scored 24 points on the back nine to add to his first half score of 15 points and came second with 39 points.

Deep Bahadur Basnet won the gross section title with 30 points, while Madan Rana bagged the senior section award with 32 points and Kalyan G Shrestha scored 25 points to claim the super senior category trophy.

Kausi Maya Rai won the women’s section title on count back after she was tied on 29 points with Sandhya Rai.

The 17-handicap Kausi Maya scored 15 and 14 points on two halves, while runner-up Sandhya, who played with 14-handicap allowance, added 12 points on the back nine after scoring 17 on the first half.

Mahendra K Mainali won the most birdies award with two birdies, while Phuntso N Lama and Deep Bahadur Basnet claimed the longest drive and closest-to-the-pin trophies respectively.

A total of 59 players took part in the one-day tournament. RNGC President Rabindra Man Shrestha, Executive Chairman of Nepal Engineering College Lambodar Neupane, Principal Prof Shova Kanta Dev, Vice-principal Tirtha Niraula and President of Nepal Golf Association Madhukar Yakthumba handed over gift hampers and trophies to the winners.
