Bhandari, Bista better personal marks

Sagar Bhandari and Bishal Singh Bista bettered their personal best marks in the Youth and Junior Asian Weightlifting Championship here at the Nepali Army Sports Complex today.

Bhandari, who participated in the junior men’s 105kg weight category, lifted a total weight of 207kg that included 85kg in snatch as well as 122kg in clean and jerk. His previous best was 110kg in clean and jerk, 87kg in snatch and 197kg in total set during the seventh National Games held in Eastern Region last year.

Also, Bista lifted a total weight of 211kg, including 93kg in snatch and 118kg in clean and jerk, in the 84kg weight category of men’s junior and youth section. His previous best set during the seventh National Games was 197kg in total, 87kg in snatch and 110kg in clean and jerk.

Jaidee Koju, who competed in his first ever competition in youth and junior men’s categories of 84kg, lifted 78kg in snatch and 100kg in clean and jerk for a total of 178kg.

Meanwhile, South Korea’s Jang Yon Hak won all three gold medals in the junior men’s 85kg after lifting a total weight of 347kg — 162kg in snatch and 185kg in clean and jerk. Antropov Artem won youth section’s gold medals of the weight category.

In the 94kg youth section, Lialeksandr won gold medals as he lifted a total weight of 329kg that included 140kg in snatch and 189kg in clean and jerk, while Fareselbakh of Qatar lifted a total weight of 375kg in above-94kg.

Also, Iran’s Ghasemali Mohammadpour lifted a total weight of 362kg, including 162kg in snatch and 196kg in clean and jerk, to win gold in the junior men’s above-105kg section.
