Bajracharya, Rana win mixed doubles

Kathmandu, April 28

Samrakshyak Bhushan Bajracharya and Mayanka Rana won the mixed doubles titles of the fifth Citizens Bank Open Tennis Tournament here at the Dasharath Stadium courts today.

The pair of Bajracharya and Rana defeated the duo of Shree Ram Magar and Ira Rawat 6-3, 6-3 in the final match. Bajracharya has also entered the men’s singles final and will face Jitendra Pariyar in his bid to defend the title, while Rawat will meet Mahika Rana in women’s singles championship match.

Pradeep Shah claimed two titles in veteran category of the tournament organised by Kathmandu District Lawn Tennis Association under the sponsorship of Citizens Bank International Limited. Shah came from a set down before beating Manoj Rana 0-6, 6-3, 10-6 in the Above-55 veteran singles final, while he defeated Manoj Bikram Shah 0-6, 6-2, 10-8 to win the Above-45 singles crown.

In the Above-35 veteran singles final, Kamal Bhandari registered a double bagel against Mahesh Shrestha, while Bhandari and Shrestha teamed up to win the Above-35 veteran doubles title beating Chhewang Lama and Manoj Biikram Shah 6-3, 6-4. Likewise, the pair of Manoj Rana and Chhyamba Dundup registered a 6-1, 6-2 victory over the duo of Prithivi Man Gurung and Rajendra Ghimire in the Above-55 veteran doubles final.

The remaining three finals — men’s singles, women’s singles and Above-45 men’s doubles final — will be played on Saturday.
