Sandeep takes two-wickets to propel Hobart Hurricanes to 7-runs victory over Sydney Thunders

KATHMANDU: Star leggie Sandeep Lamichhane scalped two-crucial wickets to steer Hobart Hurricanes to seven runs victory over Sydney Thunders during the Big Bash League in Melbourne on Sunday.

Lamichhane dented Thunders' chase when he took two wickets in two consecutive balls to break the 70-runs partnership between Moises Henriques and Jordan Silk.

He removed set Thunders skipper Moises Henriquies (43) and clean bowled Daniel Christian for a golden duck. However, Lamichhane was denied a hat-trick by Carlos Brathwaite.

Nepal's only representative in the Australian league finished his spell with 4-0-24-2.

Sent in to bat first, Hobart Hurricanes made flying start after openers Mathew Wade and D'Arcy Short combined for a 145-run partnership. D'Arcy Short contributed 72 runs in 52 balls which included seven fours and three sixes before being bowled by Abbott in the 18th over.

Chasing 188 for victory, Thunders fell short of seven runs after Jordan Silk laid the foundation for their chase with his measured innings of 78 runs in 49 balls which included eight fours and two sixes.

In Hobart's victory, Nathan Ellis was pick of the bowler with three scalps while Scott Boland chipped in two wickets.

With this victory, Hobart has moved to fifth position with 27 points and in touching distance to qualify for the next round.

Later, Skipper Mathew Wade was adjudged man-of-the-match for his blistering knock of 86 runs in 44 balls with 10 fours and three sixes.
