Sherpa, Sterla win Everest Trail Race

Solukhumbu, November 16

Nepal’s Pasang Lama Sherpa and Slovania’s Andreja Sterla won the sixth Everest Trail Race which concluded in Lukla on Tuesday.

In the men’s category, Sherpa completed six stages from Jiri to Bhandar (22km), Jase Bhanjyang (24km), Kharikhola (37km), Phakding (28km), Tyangboche (20km) and Lukla (30km) in 22 hours and four minutes to win the race.

Spain’s Capo Soler Miquel bagged second position with the timing of 24 hours and 22 minutes, while Scottish Morgan Casey came third in 24 hours and 33 minutes.

In the women’s category, Sterle clocked 20 hours and 53 minutes to finish first, while England’s Jennifer Hill (34 hours) and Dabies Sarah (40:02) came second and third respectively.

A total of 45 athletes from 10 countries, including 10 women, took part in the race which started from Jiri of Dolakha district on November 10. The top three finishers in both the categories took home 1,000 Euros, 750 Euros and 250 Euros respectively.

Annapurna Treks Expedition Pvt Ltd, Adeaventura and Grans Espais had organised the competition.
