NOC, NRNA ink deal for promotion of sports

Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) and Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) on Sunday signed the Memorandum of Understanding for promotion of sports.

NOC President Jeevan Ram Shrestha and NRNA President Sesh Ghale inked the agreement at the NOC building. As per the four-year agreement, the NOC will organise sports events to mark the NRNA Day on October 11 every year, while the NRNA will be official partner in NOC’s Olympic Movement.

“The MoU reflects the willingness of both parties to extend the Olympic Movement and its Olympic Values, such as Excellence, respect and Friendship in Nepal through promotion of various sports activities and to prepare citizens with sound health and national pride,” the agreement paper stated.

The two parties also agreed to provide logistic supports for the potential players during the participation and training in international championships. NRNA will also provide scholarships to the players selected for the South Asian Games, Asian Games and Olympics apart from finding sponsors for sports kits. NRNA will find donors and multinational companies for the construction of infrastructure in Nepal.

After the agreement, which both the parties termed as historic, the NRNA members bearing Nepali passport would be allowed to participate in selection tournaments for the SA Games, Asian Games and Olympic Games after formulating certain criteria by both the parties. The NRNA would identify high performance training centres for elite athletes and also coordinate for exchange programmes between Nepali team and various International teams.
