TAC thrash APF; Phoenix triumph

Janakpur, April 23

Tribhuvan Army Club and Phoenix Cricket Club of India won their matches of the Deepak Gupta Memorial T20 Cricket Tournament here at the Rangabhumi grounds today.

TAC thrashed Nepal APF Club by nine wickets in the Group B match, while Phoenix saw off United Cricket Club by two runs in Group A.

Put into bat first, APF were bowled for a paltry 76 runs in 19.5 overs before TAC raced to 79-1 in 11 overs.

TAC won the match comfortably after Sagar Pun scored 57 off 34 balls with the help of eight boundaries and two sixes, while Naresh Budhayer remained unbeaten on 30-ball 15 hitting three fours.

Earlier, Pranit Thapa Magar (13), Bhuwan Karki (12) and Rohit Paudel (11) scored in double figures for APF but they failed to convert them into big knocks.

TAC's Sahab Alam claimed 5-12 and received man-of-the-match award, while Jitendra Mukhiya and Sushan Bhari picked up two wickets each.

In another match, Phoenix scored 141-5 in 20 overs and restricted United to 139-9. Rajinder Lal, who was named the man-of-the-match, scored 55-ball 50 with the help of three boundaries and a six, while Mujibur Ali added 30 off 31 balls hitting five boundaries to help Phoenix post the fighting total.

In reply, United fell three runs short of the target. Ishan Pandey top scored for United with 22-ball 28 hitting three fours, while Rajan Singh (24) and Aanshu Kandoi (23) were the other major contributors.
