TAC dominate athletics

Gopi Chand Parki and Kanchhi Maya Koju of Nepal APF Club won 10,000m gold medals in athletics championship under the seventh National Games here at the Itahari Stadium today.

Parki clocked 31 minutes and 49.05 seconds to win the men’s section race. TAC’s Krishna Basnet (31 minutes and 44.05 seconds) and Olympian Hari Kumar Rimal (31 minutes and 59.48 seconds) won silver and bronze medals respectively. Similarly, Koju took 37 minutes and 16.5 seconds to finish the race ahead of TAC’s Bishworupa Budha (38 minutes and 36.60 seconds) and Laxmi Pandey (39 minutes and 32.55 seconds).

However, TAC won both gold medals in 400m race. Som Bahadur Kumar finished first in men’s section with the timing of 49.68 seconds, while his clubmate Himal KC clocked 51.68 seconds to bag silver and APF’s Shivaram Parki (52.53) claimed bronze. TAC’s Sangita Meche won women’s section race in one minute and 2.60 seconds, finishing ahead of teammate Krishna Chaudhary (1:4.60) and APF’s Bhagirathi Tharu (1:5.30).

TAC’s Ram Prasad Tharu took 49.68 seconds to win the 400m hurdles gold medal, while his teammate Bishesh Mahato came second in one minute and 1.25 seconds. Mid-western’s Ramjan Ali Salmani won bronze in one minute and 2.48 seconds. TAC also won the 100m relay in both men and women categories. The men’s team clocked 43.86 seconds, while the women’s team took 52.20 seconds. Central (44.76) and APF (44.85) came second and third in the men’s section, while Mid-western (53.83) and APF (53.88) won silver and bronze respectively.

Tribhuvan Army Club dominated athletics championship by winning 22 gold medals, while TAC’s Som Bahadur Kumal — who won 400m, 800m and 400 relay events — and Nepal Police Club’s Chandra Kala Lamgade — who broke national records in shot-put and javelin throw on her way to winning gold medals — were named the best players of the championship.

Handball

Tribhuvan Army Club, Nepal APF Club and Western Region registered victories in the men’s handball tournament. TAC defeated Far-western Region 48-11, while APF hammered Mid-western Region 56-14 and Western Region outplayed Central 45-13. In women’s section, APF defeated TAC 36-9, Eastern thrashed Mid-western 28-2 and Western hammered Far-western 19-4.

Shooting

Nepal Police Club won the women’s 10m Air Rifle team event gold medal in shooting under the seventh National Games today. The NPC team of Ashmita Rai, Phul Maya Kyapchhaki and Durga Sinjali accumulated 1112 points to finish first. Mid-western’s Shanti Bista, Sita Singh and Rushu Somai earned 1068 points to win silver medal, while TAC shooters Bina Pariyar, Kalpana Pariyar and Subina Tamang came third with 1054 points.

Sepak Takraw

Tribhuvan Army Club won the men’s team event gold medal on Tuesday. TAC defeated Central Region 2-0 in the final. Far-western Region won bronze medal with a 2-1 victory over Western Region in the third-place playoff.

Wushu

TAC won 10 gold, four silver and five bronze medals to finish as the champions in wushu. Bijay Thapa Sinjali, Hari Prasad Gole, Sabita Rai, Oshin Rai, Nima Gharti Magar, Chitra Singh Thakuri, Ram Chandra Baral, Lumanti Shrestha and Bindu Pun won golds for TAC. Similarly, APF won six gold, three silver and four bronze medals. Sushmita Tamang, Ashok Khaling, Amar Sunar, Mangal Prasad Tharu, Sanjib Maharjan and Tej Bahadur Palli bagged golds for APF. Likewise, Prem Chandra Singh Darlami and Juni Rai claimed golds for NPC who also won a silver and four bronze medals.

Soft Tennis

The pair of Pradeep Khatri and Nirmal Kaji Sthapit of Central won the men’s doubles event of soft tennis beating Eastern’s Ashish Bohara and Yukesh Yonjan in straight sets of 5-0 in Biratnagar today. Central came first in men’s event, while Far-western and Mid-western finished second and third respectively. Central and Mid-western won gold and silver medals respectively in the women’s section.
