TAC down Jhapa in sudden death

Tribhuvan  Army Club defeated Rumpum Jhapa-XI in sudden death to win the third Rumpum Jhapa Gold Cup Football Tournament here at the Domalal  Stadium in Birtamod today.

The match was decided in sudden death after  both the teams played a 1-1 draw in the regulation period and extra time, while they also scored three goals each in tie-breaker.

TAC goalkeeper Bikesh Kuthu was the hero of the match as he denied his Jhapa counterpart Kishor Giri in the fifth attempt of sudden death and Tanka Basnet converted the winning goal. In sudden death, Bishwas Shrestha, Pujan  Uparkoti, Bikash Budhathoki and Dilen Loktan scored for Jhapa, while  TAC’s Deep Lama, Bikash Tamang, Bharat Khawas and Suman Aryal also  converted their shots.

On penalties, Jhapa’s Bhushan Subba, Yogesh  Gurung and Devendra Tamang converted their shots, while Karna Limbu and  Sumin Mainali failed to score. Similarly, Nawayug Shrestha, Deepak  Gurung and Bikesh Kuthu scored for TAC, while Jitendra Karki and Santosh  Tamang wasted their shots.

Earlier, Karna Limbu  put Jhapa ahead in the 59th minute before TAC’s Bharat Khawas levelled the  tally in the 79th. TAC’s Bishwas Shrestha was named the man of the match and he got Rs 25,000.

Champions TAC received Rs 1.25 million, while Jhapa earned Rs 600,000. Jhapa’s  Yogesh Gurung was named the best player and he received a  motorbike, while his teammate Karna Limbu was the highest scorer earning Rs  51,000.

Jhapa’s Devendra Tamang was named the best defender, while TAC’s  Bikesh Kuthu was adjudged the best goalkeeper and his teammate Santosh Tamang the best midfielder. TAC’s Chun Bahadur Thapa was declared the best coach.
