TAC, NPC enter final

Tribhuvan Army Club and Nepal Police Club advanced to the semi-finals of the CoAS fifth International Women’s Football Tournament here at the Nepal Army Sports Complex grounds today.

Both the departmental sides defeated Indian teams in the quarter-final matches. Hosts TAC routed Gyalsing West Sikkim 5-0 in the first match. Sapana Lama and Krishna Khatri scored two goals each, while Rena Ghishing of the visiting side netted an own goal.

Lama opened the scoring for TAC in the 14th minute before Khatri doubled the tally in the 42nd minute. After the break, Ghishing scored in her own goal while trying to clear the ball before Lama made it 4-0 in the 66th minute with her second goal of the match.

Khatri, who had scored seven goals alone in their 12-0 victory over Western Region in the previous match, sealed the victory with the team’s fifth and her second goal. TAC’s Sapana Lama was named the player of the match. The hosts will now face Central Region on Tuesday for a place in the final.

In another match, NPC defeated Bihar 5-1 riding on a hat-trick from Niru Thapa and a brace from Nirmala BK. Mamta Kumari scored the consolation goal for the visiting team.

NPC took an early lead through Thapa’s goal in the seventh minute before she doubled the tally in the 21st minute. Mamata Kumari reduced the deficit with a goal in the 51st minute before the departmental side restored the two-goal lead three minutes later when Thapa completed her hat-trick.

BK then scored two goals. She netted her first and team’s fourth in the 61st minute and added another in the 79th minute to seal the victory. Niru Thapa was declared the player of the tournament. The NPC will face fellow departmental side Nepal APF Club in the semi-final match on Tuesday.
