Rising Cricket for Women is organising the Women’s T20 Cricket League at the Ratnanagar Stadium in Chitwan from March 7-10.

A total of four teams — RCW, Nepal APF Club, Milan Cricket Academy and All India Women’s T20 Cricket Association — will compete in the event which will be played under round robin format, informed RCW President Aarati Bidari at press meet today.

After the round robin matches, top two teams will advance to the final. The winners of the event will get Rs 50,000 along with the trophy, while runners-up will get cricket kits. Similarly, player of the series will take home a set of cricket kits, while the best bowler will get a cricket ball and the best batter will receive a bat and gloves. The best fielder will get a jersey and wicketkeeper will take home gloves and cricket pad.

Co-sponsor of the event IME Ltd will provide RCW with Rs 100,000, while Haushala Creatives will support Rs 50,000 for the event. Similarly, JHS Harmilep will sponsor cricketing equipment for the award winners.

Meanwhile, former national team member Bidari said RCW was organising the event in Chitwan to revive women’s cricket in her home town. “As a cricketer I always wanted to do something for my birth place and we are organising this event in Chitwan as the place lack cricketing activities,” said Bidari.

IME’s Marketing Head Sweta Bagla said the company was supporting the event with the motive of empowering women. “The game of cricket is rising in the country and we have been contributing to the sport. And we are supporting this event as women’s cricket also needs to be pushed,” said Bagla.

Similarly, Turkish Airlines General Manager Abdullah Tuncer Kececi said that the airlines was supporting for the cause of women. “We have been supporting big events but this is a footstep for bigger event. We want women’s league from next year and we are eager to sponsor the event,” said Kececi. “For that we need to support grassroots events first.”

Meanwhile, APF skipper Sita Rana Magar said the event would be a great platform for new players. “We hardly get to play one tournament in a year. And such events would help us a lot,” said Magar. “As players from India are also competing in the event, we will get a chance to learn from them as well,” said Magar.

Meanwhile, the hosts informed that RCW will honour cricket coaches Raju Khadka and Biru Shrestha as well as women cricketer Roma Thapa during the event.
