KATHMANDU: Early in the morning Begum Indian Cuisine Restaurant and Bar at Tangal was buzzing with confident looking models in high heels practicing to be perfect for the ramp. And every time they made a slight mistake, choreographer Prashant Tamrakar would point it out immediately.
Some 14 female models are being trained for the TGIF Nepal Fashion Week ’11 to be held from September 21-24 at Hyatt Regency, Boudha.
The 15-day long training session where models will learn different techniques associated with ramp walk started on September 5. “Within these two days of training, we have learnt a lot of things especially regarding right posture”, shared one of the models Rashmita Maharjan, also the winner of Mega Model Season 2.
Like Maharjan, Aastha Pokharel, is also hoping to learn a lot from this session, “Though we’ve learnt just the basics in these two days, there is more to learn in coming days. The training period is long and I hope to grow a lot in terms of my ramp skills”, expressed Pokharel.
Tamrakar who is training both fresh and experienced models informed, “Our plan is to provide an opportunity for the fresh models and help the experienced ones to give continuity in the modelling sector”. He also expressed happiness that the models are “excited yet serious, focused and devoted”.
He also mentioned, “The choreography this year will focus on creating individual identity of the models”.
The models are learning the techniques of catwalk, proper body posture, facial expressions as well as other essentials required for that perfect walk on the ramp. Preena Maharjan, who is walking the ramp of TGIF Nepal Fashion week for the third year shared, “Training is must as it enhances the efficiency of both the new and professional models”.
