When you strive for the best, you don’t compromise and when it comes to making of one of the most stylish and happening event of the year there will be no stone left unturned. To make TGIF Nepal Fashion Week’11 an extravagant affair, best professionals from every sector of fashion and glamour industry have come together. And they are going to make sure the fashion event of the year stays in the memory of the guests and the nation until TGIF NFW’12.
Walk the walk
“Dramatic pose are for photo shoots not for the ramp show. During ramp shows, make sure you let the clothes be the focal point. Job of a model is to present the designer’s creation in the best way,” said Prasant Tamrakar to the models, who were busy practicing to walk the walk for TGIF NFW’11. Tamrakar, who was the official choreographer for TGIF NFW’09, could not be part of the fashion extravaganza last year but this year he is back as the captain of the ship and he is making sure he provides the best shows during this year’s four-day fiesta of fashion and glamour.
“It’s been a good experience so far. I like the management of TGIF NFW’11, from the selection of models to facilities they are providing to the models is very encouraging for fashion industry. I’m getting the space and liberty while working and everyone from sound and light to other professionals involved have been very co-operative,” added Tamrakar. He insisted that round table discussion between the technical team and the designers have been helpful as it helped everyone to share what their vision is and what to expect. “It’s fun to work that way. When you have many heads working together you learn and teach new things. I am thankful towards TGIF NFW for taking fashion of Nepal to a different height. It has created awareness of Nepali fashion internationally and shown how it is developing every year. TGIF NFW has paved the way for taking Nepali fashion in global fashion map and it has provided ample opportunities to the professionals who are involved. We know our destination, now it’s up to the individuals to use this opportunity,” he insisted.
Tamrakar is all praise for the models strutting down the runway this year, “This year we have very good line-up of models with good height and very professional attitude. Perfect pose, presentation and performance are must for models as their job is to present the creation of the designer. Job responsibility of the model is to interact with the audience and let the clothes be main focus.” This year there are lesser male models compare to last year to which Tamrakar said, “We don’t lack male models it’s just that designers focus more on women apparel, if only designers gave equal importance to men clothing we would have had more male models walking down the runway.”
Tamrakar is being assisted by his team members Rashmi Basnet, Teresa and Sulav Shrestha for TGIF NFW’11.
Coif and curls
Rajesh Ghimire, the official hairstylist of TGIF NFW’11 is “energised and excited” to be part of the trendiest fashion event of the year. “It’s been five years since I have been part of any fashion show and this is the first time I am being part of TGIF NFW. I am happy for the opportunity I have been provided where I get to be
part of the team consisting best professionals from
the fashion and glamour industry of Nepal,” said Ghimire.
Ghimire insisted that the creations of the participating designers has to be the main focus of the whole show, “Designers and their theme has been kept in mind while creating the looks of the models. As there will be only one look given to every model it has to be versatile so that it goes well with all the themes of the day.” ‘Anything will work’ attitude does not work with Ghimire and he was delighted when round table meeting between the team and designer was organised, “best thing about TGIF NFW is that everything is being done very professionally, which gives us time to do our homework, understand how others are working and come up with different ideas to make the whole event a successful one.”
He does not compromise with quality, “I have met the models and their hair quality and
texture has been taken
in account so that my team can plan what
look can be given to each one of them. We will be using best brands for the event; it will help to keep the look intact throughout the show.”
Ghimire’s team consists of Bimala Rizal, Santosh Acharya, Sangita Adhikari, Namita Nakarmi and Leena Rajkarnikar.
Subtle touch of glamour
This is the first time gorgeous makeup artiste Sneh Rana is being part of TGIF NFW. Talking about her involvement with TGIF NFW’11 Rana said, “I am really looking forward for the fashion week, it has already created a buzz in town. Best part of the whole event is that is it
invitation only, that way only the niche crowd will be attending the show. TGIF NFW has already created a brand of its own giving opportunity to established and upcoming designers to showcase their creations.”
Rana, who has already been part of major Fashion Weeks in India, plans to keep it simple and minimal when it comes to make-up in this year’s TGIF NFW, “I don’t want to give dramatic look that will overshadow the clothes. Most of the designers participating in this fashion week are students and if make-up steals the show it will be very unfair to them and their hard work. So my focus is to create a look that blends well with every theme of the day.”
She insisted that the two-day round table discussion between the designers and the backstage team was, “very useful and professional. We got to interact with each other and keep account of what is expected and what needs to be delivered.”
As for models participating for the four-day fashion extravaganza Rana said, “The models coming
from India this year are really beautiful and so are the Nepali models, I am delighted to work with them. I have checked their (Nepali models) skin texture and given them tips.”
She will have a team assisting her and Rana will be using only the best products for the event. “From M.A.C. to other international brands will be used to give the long-lasting and perfect finishing. Everything has been set now I am just waiting for the event to begin,” she added.
