Wild elephant electrocuted to death by downed power line

DHANGADHI: A wild tusker commuting from Dudhwa National Park in India died after coming into contact with a downed power line while roaming around Basanta corridor in Kailali.

According to Lallan Kathriya of bordering village of Raghu Nagar, India, a baby elephant electrocuted by a downed power line was found by villagers in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

During this time in the year, wildlife including elephants from India’s Dudhwa National Park start commuting through Basanta corridor and into Kailali district. Moreover, ward 7 and 8 of Kailali are known as wildlife loop route where the animals from India flock in numbers.

According to locals, at present wild elephants are spotted in the region during mornings and evenings.
