JHAPA, FEBRUARY 12
Police have arrested an employee of Champapur Secondary School in Kankai Municipality-6, Jhapa, in connection with the death of a student here a few days ago.
Rabin Magar, who worked at the school, is accused of thrashing 10-year-old Krishna Prasad Rajbanshi. According to DSP Rakesh Thapa of the District Police Office, Magar was arrested for investigation after the school and the child's parents registered a complaint.
As per sources, Magar had punished the 10-year-old from Grade IV by pulling his ear a few weeks ago.
'After being punished at school, he fell sick and was hospitalised; he died in the course of treatment,' said the child's father Sanjaya Rajbanshi.
'We didn't know what had happened at school until his ear started swelling. Finally, he revealed that his teacher had pulled his ear as punishment in school some two weeks back. As his situation worsened, we took him to Birta City Hospital and then to B&C Hospital and Nobel Hospital of Biratnagar after he couldn't be treated in local hospitals,' shared the bereaved father.
Krishna Prasad died on Wednesday night in the course of treatment at Nobel Hospital. The school had earlier provided Rs 50,000 in assistance to the family. The victim's family has sought stern punishment against the person responsible for the death of the child and compensation from the school.
The school, however, has said the child might have died due to some other cause.
Police have said investigation is under way.
