Sherpa wins Monthly Medal trophy

KATHMANDU, AUGUST 20

Babu Sherpa won the eighth edition title of the Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Played under stoke play full handicap format, the nine-handicap amateur golfer Sherpa carded three-under 69 to finish first in nett section. Karna Thapa came second with the score of one-under 67, while Ravinder Saini was third on count back after he was tied on even-par 72 with Purna Bahadur Rai.

Tashi Tshiring claimed the gross category trophy with the score of one-over 73, while Aaiesteena Tandan lifted the women's section title with the score of six-under 66. In all, 48 golfers took part in the tournament sponsored by Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd. Captain of Gokarna Golf Club Joseph Nathan handed over the prizes to the winners.

After eight editions, Babu Sherpa claimed to the top of the nett section leaderboard with 240 points, while Ranadeep Thapa slipped to second with 215 points. Karna Thapa moved up to third position with 195 points, whereas Purna Bahadur Rai is fourth on 140 points.

Samir Acharya is fifth with 130 points, while Pavitra Kumar Karki is sixth with 125 points. Shyam Tamang, Pradip KC and Ang Dorjee Sherpa are tied for seventh place with 100 points, whereas Lalit Thapa and Sriram Thapa are tied for 10th place with 90 points.

In gross section, Tashi Tshiring moved to the top of the table with 335 points, while his younger brother Wangchen Dhondup is second with 315 points.

Vijay Shrestha Einhaus (260), Surendra Phuyal (230) and Sadbhav Acharya (190) are other golfers in top five.

After 10 monthly medal rounds, top 40 players in nett section and top 20 in gross category will make it to the Club Championship finals.
