The District Education Office, Jhapa, has been scrutinising the certificates of primary and secondary-level schoolteachers to check whether such certificates are fake. The process began
in 2057, the office said, adding that it is scrutinising 539 certificates at present. Since the beginning of the process, 22 teachers have resigned.
Of the 3,100 certificates under scrutiny, the DEO had conducted examinations of 2,544 certificates that were issued in the name of Nepali educational institutes. Altogether 574 certificates, that were issued by foreign institutions, have been sent to Kathmandu for investigation.
DEO sources said there is a possibility that nearly 50 per cent of those certificates forwarded to the centre could turn out to be fake ones.
They said most of the fake certificates were issued by various Indian educational institutions.
