KATHMANDU: The students of Bachelor of Business Studies today boycotted their first year compulsory English exam in different centres of the capital, claiming that the questions asked were outside the new syllabus. Frenzied students also tore their answer sheets and burnt the copies of question papers as soon as they discovered that the questions were outside the programme of study. Enraged students obstructed vehicular traffic, condemning the Tribhuvan University for what had transpired. A total of 68,163 students were taking their examination today. Meanwhile, in a bid to diffuse the tension, an emergency meeting was held at the Office of the Controller of Examination, Balkhu (OCE). "Despite setting two types of questions from two different syllabuses, the Office of the Controller of Examinations distributed the same question from both group," Santosh Adhikari, a BBS student from the Premier College, New Baneshwor, lamented. "The frequent negligence in preparing the question papers for aspiring students demonstrates the irresponsibility of TU towards the students," Adhikari said, adding, "This confirms the truth that the TU is not much serious towards the quality education and timely execution of its academic calendar." The enraged students also halted the vehicular movement in the capital's Exhibition Road, Bhadrakali and many more places. A brief scuffle was also reported with other cohorts, who were taking their exam. Meantime, Ramesh Joshi, assistant controller, OCE said, "We had organised a meeting of faculty experts today to find out what went wrong and where were the TU's flaws. We'll finalise the new date for today's exam." "The experts are likely to submit a report tomorrow, with the new date for today's cancelled exam," he added.
