NEPSE Index slightly down, Newly listed stocks shine

KATHMANDU, AUGUST 07

During today's trading session, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) Index concluded at 2,048.26 points, registering a slight decline of 3.21 points or 0.15% compared to the previous day's closing. On Sunday, the index experienced a more significant loss of 38.37 points.

The trading day commenced with the index opening at 2,051.47 and briefly reaching an intraday high of 2,069.73. However, market fluctuations led it to dip to an intraday low of 2,030.19 before ultimately settling at the closing value of 2,048.26.

Throughout the trading session, there were 267 scrips exchanged through 101,236 transactions, indicating active participation in the market. A considerable volume of shares, totaling 6,647,143, were traded, amounting to a turnover of Rs. 2.33 Arba. The overall market capitalization stood at Rs. 30.34 Kharba, while the float market capitalization was Rs. 10.72 Kharba.

Among the recently IPO-issued and subsequently listed companies, IME Life Insurance Company Limited and Nepal Republic Media Limited (NRM) reported the highest turnovers, with impressive amounts of Rs. 43.62 crores and Rs. 8.25 crores, respectively. These companies closed at market prices of Rs. 615.30 and Rs. 302.90 for IME Life Insurance Company Limited and Nepal Republic Media Limited, respectively.

Notably, the newly listed stock, Nepal Republic Media Limited (NRM), and Gurkhas Finance Limited (GUFL) showed substantial gains of 9.99% and 9.74%, respectively, almost reaching the positive circuit for the day. On the other hand, Chhyangdi Hydropower Limited (CHL) experienced the highest decline of 6.45%.

Looking at sector indices, four sectors closed in the red, with the banking sub-index recording the most significant loss at 0.94% negative change. However, the Finance Index performed well, closing with a positive change of 1.65%.
