KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 17

Two elderly individuals, Bhuleshwor Karki (88) of Bheri Municipality-2 and Narendra Bahadur Singh of Barekot Rural Municipality-4, succumbed to the cold in Jajarkot district.

They had been residing in tents after their houses were destroyed by a 6.4 magnitude earthquake that struck with its epicenter in Ramidanda of Jajarkot on November 3, causing significant loss of life and property.

Both victims, suffering from asthma, fell prey to the increasing cold, according to Barekot Rural Municipality's Chairperson, Bir Bahadur Giri. He mentioned that over 34,000 families in Jajarkot are currently living in tents due to complete house destruction caused by the earthquake.

Among the affected, children, new mothers, chronic disease patients, and the elderly are particularly vulnerable to the harsh conditions.

Chief District Officer of Jajarkot, Suresh Sunar, reported that children and elderly individuals are experiencing respiratory problems. He added that two chronic disease patients also recently lost their lives to the cold in Nalgad-4.

Initiatives are underway to make necessary arrangements for the well-being of children, new mothers, chronic patients, and the elderly.
