British Army Chief to arrive today

KATHMANDU: British Army Chief General David Richards is expected to arrive in Kathmandu at the invitation of Chief of Army Staff Chhatra Man Singh Gurung for a six day visit on Friday.
During his visit, the army chief is scheduled to observe the British Gurkhas Nepal’s activities including its recruitment procedure for the British Army.
General Richards is also scheduled to pay courtesy calls on President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, Defence Minister Bidhya Devi Bhandari and his Nepali counterpart, General Gurung.
The army chief, who was elevated to the army’s highest rank in 2009, has already visited Nepal in the past as the Colonel Commandment of Brigade of Gurkhas and the chairman of the Gurkha Welfare Trust.
