Poachers killed KATHMANDU: The Nepali Army on Thursday said three poachers were killed and one injured in a clash between a group of poachers and an NA patrolling team in the Bardiya National Conservation area. In a press release, the army said its team was compelled to open fire when the group of poachers opened fire at the patrolling team. Four other poachers fled the scene, while one was taken into custody, the army said. According to the statement, the poachers had been camping in the area for the past four days. Three killed in fire CHARIKOT: A woman and her two daughters were killed in a fire that broke out in a house at Katakuti-6 in Laptan Tole on Wednesday night. According to Dhiraj Pratap Singh, DSP at the District Police Office, Dolakha, the fire broke out at Sudip Karki;s house, while Karki's wife, 23-year old Pramila, her three-year old daughter Suprabha and a nine-month old daughter Sunita were killed. Karki was in Kathmandu when the incident occurred. Locals said they failed to save the three as they came to know of the fire only after it had burnt down the house. Land seized PARASI: Cadres of the CPN-Maoist (Matrika Group) on Thursday seized 12 bighas of land at Guthiprasouni VDC ward No 7 and 8 in Nawalparasi. A group of around 150 cadres hoisted a party flag on the land and declared the seizure. According to Dev Karan Jaisawal, former chairman of the VDC, the land was being used by landless people. Bijaya Singh, Chairman of Yuba Janasuraksha Bal, a sister organisation of the party, said that they had seized the land as most of the landless people were placed there by some political parties. Singh also said that the land would be returned to those who will be identified as genuine landless people. Twelve hurt in clash SIRAHA: Claiming that the police thrashed innocent persons indiscriminately, locals on Thursday shut Golbazaar in Siraha for an indefinite period. At least 12 persons were injured in a clash between the police and the locals on Wednesday. The clash occurred after the locals tried to stop the police from arresting a driver of a Bolero jeep having an Indian registration number, who tried to escape police checking, said police.
