KATHMANDU: The Embassy of India today signed a memorandum of understanding with Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh (NNJS) for providing the latter with Rs 10.3 million grant for conducting mobile screening camps at schools in various districts. Issuing a statement today, the embassy said the aid will cover the cost of 9,000 optical devices for vision-impaired children and low vision dispensing device for 300 children. The devices will be distributed at mobile screening camps as a part of National Eye Sight Programme to be held during 2009-11. The government of India is also said to provide an additional assistance of Rs 35.7 million for Trachoma and cataract surgeries through field camps. The Indian government has been providing assistance to NNJS for eye care programme since 2001.
