LALITPUR: Ralish Maharjan scored a hat-trick as Little Angles’ School (LAS) defeated GEMS 5-0 at the Campion Inter-school Football Tournament, which has been organised by Campion Associates. Chize Kumar Bote and Sujan Pradhananga also scored for LAS. In other matches, Tenzing Doleck netted twice and Nibesh Tamrakar scored one goal in Malpi International School’s 5-0 win over Future Star School; and Birendra Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyalaya (BSAM) beat Brihaspati Vidya Sadan 4-0. Pranip Munakarmi, Raj Kumar Thapa, Santosh Upadhya and Bikash Kunwar scored for the winners. — HNS

Men 11 triumph

KATHMANDU: Kharka Prasad Gurung scored the only goal as Men 11 of Chakrapath defeated Jhamsikhel Youth Club 1-0 at the ‘C’ Division League Selection Knock-out Football Tournament. In the other match, Philip Tamang netted twice in Shree Chandeshwori Club of Ramechhap’s 3-1 win over Legend Club of Bansbari. While goalkeeper Prakash Lama scored for Chandeshwori, Govinda Karki scored Legend’s only goal in the 13th second. Also, Krishna Shakya scored five goals as Birgunj Youth Academy thrashed DhumbarahiTole Sudhar Samiti 8-0; and Best Club beat Kusunti Youth Club 3-1. — HNS

G’morgan sign Sourav

LONDON: Glamorgan have signed Indian Test captain Sourav Ganguly in a bid to turn around a disastrous start to the season that has seen them lose all five of their games in the County Championship. Subject to international clearance, Ganguly will join up with Glamorgan in time for the Championship match against Sussex which begins on June 1. Ganguly has signed to play for June and July but that could be extended if Ganguly’s appeal against his ban for six ODIs is dismissed. — AFP

Ferdinand banned

LONDON: Manchester United and England footballer Rio Ferdinand was slapped with his fourth driving ban on Wednesday after a court heard he was clocked travelling at more than 169 kilometres an hour. A magistrates court in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, disqualified the 26-year-old in his absence from driving for 28 days. It also fined him $2,740. The driving ban was the fourth for Ferdinand, and his third in four years, following convictions for drink-driving in 1997 and speeding in 2002 and 2003. — AFP

Celtic boss to resign

GLASGOW: Celtic manager Martin O’Neill announced on Wednesday he will resign after Saturday’s Scottish Cup final to devote his time to caring for his sick wife. O’Neill’s decision to stand down came three days after Celtic lost their league title to arch-rivals Rangers. — AFP

Eto’o fined $15,140

MADRID: Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o was fined $15,140 by the Spanish soccer federation for insulting his former club Real Madrid during his team’s title celebrations. During Barcelona’s festivities at its Camp Nou stadium on May 15, the Camer-oonian shouted to a crowd that Real Madrid “should salute the champion.” The competition committee said the fine could have been even heavier, but they took into account that the player had apologised. — AP
